Government for the people

The State of Israel resides in the Land of Israel, which is the homeland of the Jewish People. So far so good. But the country of Israel is not like the country of the United States, lets say. The US was founded by people who gave due consideration and thought to the ideas of governance and democracy, whereas the "founders" of Israel were more concerned about consolidating their own political base at all costs. This has led to a seriously dysfunctional state apparatus within Israel that robs its citizens of liberty and freedom. This has to stop.

The most glaring lack of civil rights in Israel is the lack of a writ of habeas corpus. The writ of habeas corpus says that if the police arrest you, you must be charged with a crime or set free within 72 hours. In Israel, they can arrest you for no reason, and keep you in jail for years if they so desire. I personally know several people this has happened to. For example, Lenny Goldberg's two daughters were jailed for 50 days for participating in a protest against the Israeli government. They were 12 and 14 at the time.

It is time for the people of Israel to take back their government. Governments should serve the people, not the other way around. Government should be answerable to the people. Government should be controlled by the people.

The people of Israel need to rally, and go to the streets to let the Israeli government know that it will no longer be acceptable for the government to fix the elections, arrest citizens at will, or give away parts of the land without a referendum. The people of Israel need to take back their government.
